Swedish small businesses are using AI to a greater extent than their European counterparts, according to a recent YouGov survey. Nearly half of Swedish SMEs have integrated AI services into their operations.

A YouGov survey, commissioned by IONOS, shows that 45 per cent of Swedish SMEs use AI services. This places Sweden at the top among the nine surveyed European countries, ahead of Germany (44%) and the UK (43%). The survey also indicates that 19 per cent of Swedish respondents use AI daily in their business, a higher proportion than in Germany and the UK (both 13%).

The high AI usage among Swedish SMEs reflects a broader trend of digital adoption and indicates that AI integration is a fundamental shift rather than a temporary trend. Companies investing in AI can potentially streamline processes, improve customer experiences, and increase competitiveness. Investments in AI and IT security are now being prioritised to a greater extent than other areas.
Vem påverkas
Small business owners and employees within SMEs in Sweden and the rest of Europe are directly affected by this development. AI developers and service providers can expect increased demand. Industry organisations and policymakers gain insights into the progress of digitalisation.
EU-status
The survey covered nine European countries, providing a direct comparison of AI usage within the EU and the UK. The results show significant regional differences within the union in how quickly small businesses adopt AI technology.

Jens Reich, CEO of STRATO and Chief Marketing Officer for the IONOS Group, highlights that Sweden's position as a leader in digital adoption now extends to AI. This suggests a lasting integration of the technology into business operations.
