Swedish AI plans place higher demands on infrastructure
A new survey shows that 85 percent of Swedish companies are planning or have already implemented AI. At the same time, one in three identifies a lack of infrastructure as a barrier.

What happened?
According to Digital Realty's Global Data Insights Survey 2026, 85 percent of the Swedish companies surveyed state that they have already implemented or plan to implement AI within the next twelve months. Simultaneously, 34 percent of Swedish respondents indicate that a lack of specialised infrastructure represents a significant barrier to their AI initiatives.
Key facts
Why it matters
As Swedish organisations scale up their AI efforts, the strain on the underlying infrastructure increases. The need for greater data centre capacity, stable electricity supply, advanced cooling and high-speed connectivity risks creating bottlenecks if expansion does not keep pace.
Who is affected?
The findings concern Swedish IT decision-makers, data centre operators, and companies planning or running AI projects. Of the Swedish respondents, 69 percent state that they expect a return on their AI investments within two years.
Impact on the EU
The survey is part of a global study of 2,131 IT decision-makers across 19 countries, highlighting how infrastructure requirements are increasing in parallel across several European and global markets.
What else you should know
Data centre operators and IT departments are facing challenges regarding power supply, cooling, and network capacity as the demands from AI models increase. The survey’s Swedish results were distributed via Via TT.
